Devon Trip

DSC_1904

This past week, J and I have been away in Devon for a much needed break. We booked a few nights in a B&B in a little village just off Dartmouth and were pleasantly surprised with our choice. Greeted with home made fruit cake and a pot of tea, on the balcony overlooking the sea was more than we could possibly ask for. An extra bonus was that the B&B was seconds away from the coastal path which would lead us to a perfect tranquil little beach only know to locals in the area. There was hardly anyone around and we had the beach pretty much to ourselves ; which was a far cry from the noise and bustle of holidaymakers on Blackpool Sands.

All in all, we had a brilliant time and were a little dissapointed to be heading home.

Does the proprietor sit down with the guests at meal times or for a pint with J ?
What is the diff between a hotel n a B&B in ur opinion ?

  • The only meal you would get from the B&B would usually be breakfast. I’ve heard in certain B&Bs in Italy where the proprietor/host would serve other meals as well and where you would enjoy it with other guests as well. Sounds nice but I’ve never had that before.

I prefer B&Bs rather than hotels due to the full English Breakfast you get every morning and literally fills you right up till dinner time! Also, I find the experience more personal and you get to meet the proprietors and they tend to be friendlier than the usual staff behind the desk in a hotel lobby. It’s almost as if they’re inviting you into their own home and they take great pride in their little business and house. I’m all for supporting small independent local businesses rather than boost the millions of pounds profits of major hotel chains.

Do you get B&Bs in Holland?
